Product Test #1 – Echo 1 G36C

DAW’s Ongoing Product Test – Echo 1 G36C

OK, so the first item on our list is Echo 1’s G36C. This has become an immensely popular Airsoft AEG, mostly because of it’s price. For about $140 you do get an awful lot for the money. So, we wanted to know just what EXACTLY you are getting for that money? Well, since we happen to have one and we tend to shoot it a lot, we thought we would blog in an ongoing fashion as to the true reliability and quality of the Echo 1.

So, let’s start here: DAW’s Initial Review of Echo 1’s X36C/G36C

As we continue testing and shooting and using this Airsoft AEG in games and such we will continue to give our opinions and thoughts and gripes. Tell us what YOU think as you follow along.

  1. So, if you have found this post you have read what we are doing, and have read our initial review. This post is meant to be an update from the initial review.

Since the beginning of 2008 we have used this Airsoft Gun just about daily. At lunch we shoot it in the warehouse, and we put on average a mag a day, 3 – 4 times per week, that means that we have so far put (APPROXIMATELY) 5,400 rounds per month just screwing around (450 round mag X 3 days per week X 4 weeks). On top of that various people have used it for weekend ops, so add another 5,000 per month. So, 10,400 rounds per month 3 months, so figure 31,200 rounds thus far.

This AEG holds a charge very well, and we have been able to get through a whole day game and ALMOST not have to change the battery. I say almost because right towards the end you can really tell is needs to be replaced.

Still this is very good. For the cost of this gun you can STILL afford an extra battery, upgrade to the SMART charger, get a decent site and a few spare mage and come out at least $100 below a Marui or Classic Army.

So we are all still very pleased with the AEG over all. The selector switch thing really isn’t a big deal, but it is a cheap piece on what has proven thus far to ver a very well build Airsoft Gun.

    More to come!

  2. OK. One of my staff had an “Ops” weekend and he took the Echo 1 G36C to field test it. Jamie’s report is as follows:

“Every month some friends and I get together, choose up sides, and play in some land “a friend of a friend” let us play on out in the boonies. I arrived Saturday morning with 3 fully charged batteries, 4 full mags, 10,000 extra bb’s and all my tactical gear.

The first thing I noticed is the toughness of the Echo 1. It doesn’t squeak or creek and it feels solid in your hands. All of my mags worked and I have a mixed bag of different manufacturers, each fed well through the gun.

The accuracy is pretty good for a short gun. I made a couple of kills at 60+ feet. Not bad! I played the whole day, shot more than 7 mags (450 rounds each), and changed the battery once. I was really happy with how this gun performed.

The selector switch is a little “wiggly” and is the only real gripe I had with the gun. For the price I think it really is up to par with some guns costing significantly more”

Well, field test #1 was a great success. More when we have it.

  3. OK, I finally got a fellow airsoft nut to let me use his chronograph on the Echo 1 and I am have to say I am very happy with the results, especially since they back up my initial scientifically devised “Cardboard and Styrofoam” test.

I started with a fully charged battery, a couple mags full of .20g BB’s of various manufacture, an Chronograph, and some liquid refreshment of German heritage. I fired 10 single rounds in semi auto and averaged the FPS for ease of reporting. I was surprised to see an average of 364 FPS, with one round as high as 371, although I suspect a bad BB.

I then enjoyed some additional liquid refreshment as I went through 2 full mags on full auto, figing bursts of various legnths and then repeated the above process. There was minimal drop in velocity, our average was 362.

So, this little gun for a measly $140 retail is, so far, a damm good rifle and shoots pretty damm hard outta the box.

I really need to start looking into the wonderful worlds of MODDING and ACCESSORIES!!!

  4. OK, It’s about time for a new update on our Echo 1 G36C.

We have a little over 100,000 rounds through our Echo 1 AEG, and we are still all totally thrilled with it;s reliability. We have dropped it, abused it, and used every kind and brand of magazine we can find and nothing but steady feeding and flawless shooting. It eats everything we can feed it and keeps shooting until it runs out of juice.

Battery life is still very good, and the only thing we would recommend to someone who is a ‘serious” player is get a 2nd battery.

It boggles the mind that a “cheap” gun can run like this.
